    Envy: The Invidious Sin.


    Of all the seven deadly sins, only Envy is no fun at all. Unrequited lust bites, and it leads to envy. Everyone wants what they can't have. Why is Envy so unenviable? Impotent, numbed with fear, yet never ceasing in its appetite; knowing no gratification, save endless self-torment. It has the ugliness of a trapped rat that has gnawed its own foot in its effort to escape. Envy is a tree, whose root is pride, its trunk ill-will, its branches rancour and hatred, its leaves flattery, back biting and lies, its blossoms pallor and emaciation, and its fruit grief and joy, that is to say, grief at one’s neighbour’s good fortune and joy at his ill luck. At its best, envy remains a hidden pool of ingratitude and resentment, secretly applauding the downfall and sorrow of others.

    What's with the hate? Without envy or jealousy, there won't be any improvement or creativity; for if we are to be totally satisfied with another's work then you will have no reason to surpass it. Only though the discontent of another can we excel.
